Katy City Park

Even if you don’t live in one of the neighborhoods near this park at 5720 Franz Road, the short drive from other parts of Katy will be well worthwhile. Katy City Park is just west of downtown, making it a convenient stop for anyone in the city. The park is open to everyone and offers free parking in addition to nearby off-street parking.

As one of Katy’s most popular parks, this recreation center has resources to meet every need. It’s home to award-winning playground equipment with challenges for every skill level, including playgrounds designed for children with disabilities.

Although you’ll have to bring your own bats, balls, and rackets, Katy City Park includes tournament-size fields and courts. These facilities are designed for baseball, softball, soccer, basketball, and tennis. The park also features picnic areas where families can gather for a meal after the game.

Mary Jo Peckham Park

Located at 5597 Gardenia Lane, Mary Jo Peckham Park is adjacent to Katy City Park. Katy parks in this area are close to Katy Library, Zelma Hutsell Elementary, and other community amenities. Although parking and amenities are free to use, Harris County requires visitors to the park to be Harris County residents. You must complete a registration form and supply a copy of your driver’s license to become a member.

Some of the events and amenities provided to park members include swimming, CPR and first-aid lessons, arthritis swim lessons, and various workshops. The park has facilities for yoga, weight training, qigong, and jogging. 

At 32 acres, this is one of the larger parks in Katy, and it includes an expansive playground, an off-leash dog park, a fishing lake, an aquatic and fitness center, and a free minigolf course (ask for clubs and balls at the community center). There are play areas for children of every age, from toddler to preteen. Mary Jo Peckham Park also has picnic pavilions and public restrooms. 

Katy Park

Located just to the east of the Katy metro area, you can find Katy Park at 24927 Morton Road. The park covers 100 acres, and Salt Grass Trail Way runs through its center, dividing it between baseball and soccer fields. Katy Park welcomes children and pets, and it offers dog-friendly jogging trails, as well as a large open green space at the north end.

The park is home to Katy American Little League, Katy Youth Soccer Club, and the AHFC practice field. These organizations have helped bring regulation-size baseball and soccer fields to the park. Although you should bring your own equipment, you can use these fields when there aren’t any scheduled games or team practices.

Like many of the other parks in Katy, Katy Park has picnic areas and BBQ pavilions. This is a good park for enjoying a sunny day or for organizing a game with others. Since it’s located amid residential streets, it has a quiet atmosphere. 

Malcolm E. Beckendorff Family Park

One of the smaller parks in Katy, Malcolm E. Beckendorff Family Park, takes up just 5.5 acres at 1815 Katyland Drive. It’s a short drive south of Katy Park, sandwiched between Katy Hockley Cut Off Road and Katy Fort Bend Road. Admission and parking are free.

The park includes the Legacy and Rhodes stadiums. There’s also a paved path for walking and bicycling. Dogs are welcome in the park, and there’s a small playground for children of all ages.

Picnic areas are available throughout the park. However, visitors should be aware that Malcolm E. Beckendorff Family Park does not have restrooms. This park is usually not very busy in the afternoons and on weekdays, so it’s a great place to bring children to burn off their energy in the play area or to take your dog for a walk when you live in Katy.

Four Seasons Park

You can find Four Seasons Park at 4702 Katy Hockley Cut Off Road, just northeast of downtown Katy. It’s one of the smaller Katy parks and is located away from the city’s primary urban setting.

The eight lighted baseball fields are the star of the show, and there’s plenty of open space for playing games surrounding them, as well as a concession stand. It offers a great place to get some exercise and fresh air. The fields are the home of the Katy Pony Baseball youth league, with teams for players ages 4–18.

There is no admission charge, and the large parking lot is free. The park features public restrooms and picnic areas that are great for small family gatherings. 

Mason Creek South Hike & Bike Trail

Hikers and cyclists will find that Mason Creek South Hike & Bike Trail is among the best Katy parks. It’s located just south of Katy Park and extends from Salt Grass Trail Way east to Porter Road. The park doesn’t charge admission and provides free parking.

The main focus of the park is a 2.6-mile trail that circles in a long loop around the wetlands area. Hikers can expect to take 45 minutes to complete the loop, but cyclists can usually ride it in around 15 minutes. Despite the park’s popularity, it’s rarely overcrowded. Most people find that the trail is comfortable without becoming congested. 

The loop provides a panoramic view of the area, but there are shorter trails that loop closer to the picnic areas and playground equipment. If you just want to take a short hike, you’ll find trails to meet your fitness goals.
