The master-planned community of Marvida is among the newest neighborhoods in the northwest Harris County town of Cypress, Texas. The development is designed to feature more than 2,000 new construction homes spanning 850 acres north of FM 529, between Grand Parkway and Fry Road. Public transportation options in the Cypress area include the Houston METRO park and ride service, running Monday through Friday, with the one-way fare to stops in and around downtown Houston generally less than five bucks. There's no shortage of shopping in the area around the Marvida community. Top stops for groceries include local favorites like Fiesta Mart and H-E-B, as well as national chains like ALDI and Kroger. Several specialty shops are nearby, including the Ca Mau Asian food market and Cypress Grocery and Halal Meat in the Stone Gate Commons mall. There are plenty more retail opportunities throughout the area, with a Walmart Supercenter and several smaller spots like the Westgreen Plaza and Langham Creek Plaza shops. 

More shopping can be found along Highway 290 on both sides of Cypress, including The Shoppes at Cypress Mill, the Fairfield Town Center, and Coles Crossing Shopping Center. And, for those serious about their retail therapy, Houston's famous Galleria is less than 30 miles away.

Outdoor Activities

The area around Marvida and Cypress features numerous parks, nature areas, and hiking and biking trails. Among the most popular outdoor spots are the nearby Bear Creek Pioneers Park and Addicks Reservoir. Other neighboring activities and attractions include a variety of community swimming pools, playgrounds, sports fields, and parks, including John Paul Landing Park and Paul D. Rushing Park, located just to the west of Marvida, as well as Mary Jo Peckham Park down the road in Katy. 

Horse lovers will find a wealth of equestrian facilities throughout the Cypress region, with various stables and arenas providing plenty of places to saddle up and ride on this side of the Houston metro.  

Golfers have lots of opportunities as well. Among the best golf courses in Cypress, TX, is the Cypress Lakes Golf Club, a challenging 18-hole municipal track and a popular destination for corporate golf outings and community fundraising events. Another favorite public golf course is actually two 18-hole layouts at the BlackHorse Golf Club in the nearby BlackHorse Ranch neighborhood.

Restaurants, Breweries & Bars

Locals living in the Marvida community have an impressive selection of restaurants, brew pubs, and neighborhood bars from which to choose. The area features lots of fast-food favorites, with all the usual suspects for chicken, burgers, and pizza. There's also an abundance of Tex-Mex and Mexican flavors, especially along the Highway 290 corridor. Other popular menus near Marvida in Cypress include Up Thai Kitchen, Marvino's Italian Steakhouse, and Nyam Nyam European Cafe.

Up the road, you can enjoy a quintessentially Texan hangout at The Frio Hill Country Grill. This renovated turn-of-the-century ranch house on Mueschke Road north of town features outdoor seating, great food, craft beer and cocktails, and live music in the old restored barn. Several brew pubs are also located near Cypress. It's always time for a cold one at the Brew:30 Taphouse up Telge Road, the Bearded Fox Brewing Company on Spring Cypress Road near Highway 249, or the World of Beer gastropub near the southeast corner of the Towne Lake neighborhood.

Nearby Attractions

Plenty of additional attractions are found near Marvida and throughout the Cypress area. Locally, the waterfront sights and shops at The Boardwalk at Towne Lake provide a great way to spend an afternoon. About 20 miles north in the city of Tomball, folks celebrate at the German Fest Christmas Market every December, with street vendors, live music, roaming entertainers, and free admission and parking. A little further up the road is historic Old Town Spring, a favorite shopping, dining, and entertainment destination particularly popular during the holiday season. 

Elsewhere, more adventurous destinations await. Texas's Gulf Coast beaches on Galveston Island are only a couple of hours away. Marvida residents also have a head start on the Texas Hill Country, spending less time driving and more time enjoying weekend trips to Austin or San Antonio.

Employers Near Marvida

For those pursuing careers in medicine, several hospitals and medical centers are within minutes of the community. Marvida residents are only 15 miles from Houston's Energy Corridor, where tens of thousands of jobs await at companies like Conoco Phillips, Baker Hughes, and British Petroleum.

Schools Near Marvida

Addresses in Marvida are zoned to public schools in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD, with several campuses in and around the community. Walker Elementary is located a few minutes south in the Settlers Village neighborhood, with the Andre' Elementary campus nearby at Longenbaugh and Fry Road. Rowe Middle School and Cypress Park High School share the educational and athletic complex in the southwest corner of the Marvida community.

Several private and parochial schools serve the area, including the Harmony Science Academy campus near FM 529 and Greenhouse Road and The Connection School of Houston, an interdenominational Christian school with various instructional and athletic programs for students K-12.

Among the area's many daycare facilities are the Cypress campus of Discovery Years Early Learning Center, the Children's Lighthouse of Cypress at Canyon Lakes West, and the Butterfly Academy Early Learning Center. Advanced education opportunities include Lone Star College, with several community college campuses in the region, and Houston Community College, with campuses in Katy and Alief.
